Individual Business Degree Programs
- Accounting
It’s more than learning how to crunch numbers and create spreadsheets. Accounting and Public Accounting majors at Marietta College forge lasting relationships with professors who challenge students to work outside their comfort zones and be active participants in their education. These close relationships with professors, plus the experience gained through independent and faculty-led research, internships with industry leaders and networking connections made through the College’s 25,000-plus alumni are what Marietta’s Accounting and Public Accounting majors expect.
Marietta’s program is led by talented and respected certified public accountants who are dedicated to teaching. You can choose to focus on either the 120-hour Accounting major or the 150-hour Public Accounting major, which qualifies you to sit for the Certified Public Accounting (CPA) Examination in most states immediately following graduation. The 150-hour degree program can be completed within four years if courses are taken in the summer, but most students complete the requirements in 4 1/2 years. Marietta offers an attractive tuition-free grant for the last semester of coursework in the 150-degree program.
Earning an Accounting or Public Accounting degree from Marietta opens doors to careers in auditing, tax accounting, cost accounting, managerial accounting, public accounting, and government and corporate work. These degrees produce results — over the last six years, more than 80 percent of students have secured full-time employment before or within three months of graduation. One hundred percent of the students who have applied to graduate school have been accepted.
The bottom line is that if you decide to major in Accounting and Public Accounting at Marietta, you will have a multitude of options and opportunities.
- Economics
Our Economics majors do not want to be pointed and pushed in one direction — they want the panoramic view of the relationship between business and the economy. A Marietta College Economics degree will you OPTIONS.
You will learn from talented faculty who teach the theoretical side of economics and the mathematical and statistical techniques you will need to be successful in the field. The Business & Economics Department offers an internship program that helps enrich students’ educational experiences by exposing them to the business environment.
During your four years at Marietta, you will join other Economics majors to conduct serious research projects — either individually or with fellow students or faculty mentors. This research is presented at professional conferences and on campus every year during All Scholars Day.
As you prepare to graduate it will be apparent that you will possess the ability to apply abstract principles to practical matters — and this skillset will make you highly sought after by employers and graduate programs.

In every course, you will complete industry-related projects, whether that’s participating in a mock trial based on an actual sports case that was litigated in the courts to planning and implementing Community Baseball Day and Community Softball Day, a Marietta College tradition since 1999. Sport Management students begin to build their own professional network by completing a mentor assignment with a mentor in the sport industry.
Dedicated faculty support and challenge students in the classroom and in the field. You will complete at least two internships and a practicum course. Students may pursue job shadowing experiences with organizations like the Cleveland Cavaliers and ESPN, further expanding their professional network. In recent years, our students have gained valuable experience working at the Boca Raton Bowl, Orange Bowl, Myrtle Beach Bowl and with the Savannah Bananas.
- Business — Minor
Adding a minor in Business is a great way for students in other majors to round out their résumé and increase their marketability to employers and opens doors to a range of options at many companies. For years, we have heard from many employers that they want to find more employees who have a liberal arts background and are great communicators. By adding a minor in business you are also telling an employer that you understand the language of the business world.
We will teach you how organizations function and how you can contribute to their success. You will discover that this minor is more than being good with the numbers, but rather we want you to gain important skills that will help you in your career — working in a team, analyzing data, solving problems, and expanding your knowledge about the business world.
