ATO brothers participate in Cycle for MS fundraiser

Great things are happening at Marietta College, thanks to our engaged students, talented faculty and staff, and our commitment as a campus to blaze new trails. Each week, the College will share this Spotlight on Success. If you have good news items to add, please email marketing@marietta.edu.

STUDENT SUCCESS & ENGAGEMENT

  • As part of their LEAD 101 class, every McDonough first-year student signed on to participate in Make a Difference Day projects to support local nonprofit organizations and specific groups on campus starting October 25. Over the course of three “action days,” 156 students completed 468 hours of service in the greater Marietta community and on campus. The students began planning these projects and working with the different nonprofits at the start of the Fall semester, so the total number of hours spent helping the organizations is closer to 1,000 hours. Their projects included planning and implementing a Halloween Party for senior citizens at the O’Neill Senior Center, trail maintenance on the Broughton Foundation’s Nature and Wildlife Education Area, and grounds/landscaping work at the Humane Society of the Mid-Ohio Valley.

  • Keeping up with the tradition of service, the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity’s Cycle For MS fundraiser ran from noon Monday, October 21, through noon Monday, October 28. In total, the brothers logged more than 168 hours of cycling and raised $1,251 towards the National Society of Multiple Sclerosis. This consisted of nearly 45 people taking one-hour shifts at a time — with 15 people contributing more than 10 hours each and one person contributing more than 20 hours. “We tried our best to have two people on the bike so that brothers could build their relationships with each other as well as people within the Marietta community,” said Zack Riffle ’25 (St. Clairsville, Ohio), President of the Beta Rho Chapter of ATO.

  • Homecoming 2024 is in the books, and part of the King & Queen competition includes fundraising for a variety of causes close to each candidate’s heart. This year, the 22-person court raised a total of $10,843.11 in support of their charities, in addition to participating in a variety of friendly competitions such as Munchies on The Mall and a pumpkin decorating contest. This year’s King was Joshua Radloff ’25 (Cincinnati, Ohio), who raised $1,171.64 in support of the McDonough EXCEL program, and the Queen was Jordan Cholley ’25 (North Canton, Ohio), who raised $1,650 for the Sport Management Program.

  • The Alpha Xi Delta fraternity welcomed alumnae and friends back to their historic house to celebrate a special ribbon-cutting ceremony to commemorate its restoration. The ceremony — attended by alumnae, family, College dignitaries and Ohio Senator Brian Chavez — was an opportunity to showcase the beauty of the newly renovated house after it was nearly destroyed by fire nearly three years ago.

  • Marietta’s Physician Assistant Studies Graduate Program celebrated its 20th anniversary with alums, current and former faculty and staff, and current students on Saturday. In addition to honoring Dr. Gloria Stewart with a Lifetime Achievement Award, it was announced that the Dr. John Grosel Family & Friends Scholarship reached its fundraising goal and will be ready to disperse funds in 2026.
