STUDENT SUCCESS

More than 80 students and 10 employees attended the Academic Resource Center’s Wings, Rings and Sings event on Thursday, October 18, in Izzy’s. Through a partnership with Parkhurst Dining, Amanda Haney-Cech and her staff organized an evening of chicken wings, onion rings, and karaoke singing to help students de-stress after mid-terms and connect with the ARC in a fun environment. More ARC-organized events are on the horizon, including a De-Stress with Dogs and a Movie Night.

McDonough Scholars Bryce Moyers ’25 (Ashland, Ohio), Laney Carpenter ’25 (Cambridge, Ohio), Shay Allshouse ’26 (West Salem, Ohio), Lexi Sabatino ’26 (Alliance, Ohio), Maria Cipro ’25 (Medina, Ohio) and Abby May ’25 (Randolph, Ohio) are competing in an international case study based on UN sustainable development goals during the 2024 International Leadership Association Conference in Chicago.

Petroleum Engineering seniors Nick Kumor ’25, Carson Halbower ’25, Brayden Ziemer ’25, Wade Smith ’25, Ben Sobb ’25, Paige Schindler ’25 and Trevor Mcneill ’25 organized a highly successful Energy Technical Exhibition on Friday, October 18, in Dyson Baudo Recreation Center and along Butler Street. Students from Marietta College, other colleges and universities, and high schools learned about the energy industry companies who had displays during the event and were able to network for potential internships and jobs.

Homecoming Week is underway, with 22 candidates vying for the King and Queen honors. Hundreds of alums are registered to attend the weekend festivities.

CAMPUS NEWS

Jason Nulton, Marietta’s Coordinator for the Office of Community Engagement and the Veterans and Air Force/Space Force ROTC Programs, is being honored with the Washington County Veterans Commission Chair Award of Excellence by the Washington County Veterans Service Commission. This award recognizes exceptional and notable achievement and assistance to the Veterans Services Commission, patriotism, and love for community.  In Jason's specific instance, they are honoring his support of the Vietnam Veteran's Welcome Home event, his service to supporting veterans through his work on Marietta’s initiatives, and his work through McDonough to connect the county veterans' groups, including the VFW, American Legion, Marine Corps League, Purple Heart Society, and AMVETS.

Legacy Library is featuring a special Pioneers in Print: A Celebration of Pioneer Publishing on Friday, October 25, to celebrate student, faculty, staff and alumni authors, editors and contributing writers. This event is from 4:00-6:00 p.m. in the Prince Forum. Most of the authors will be available to discuss their books.
