What You'll Learn While Majoring in Health Science

The interdisciplinary Health Science program helps students build connections between the liberal arts and health-related fields, making our graduates excellent candidates for allied health professions and graduate programs. Students are encouraged to craft the curriculum that is best fitted to their future goals in allied healthcare, to pursue internships that develop their ability to create change and to pursue research that inspires them to dream bigger.

Foundational Concepts

The program establishes a basis of foundational scientific concepts from the fields of biology, chemistry, and sports medicine. Courses include Human Physiology, Human Anatomy, Environmental Toxicology, and Health Communication. As students progress to higher-level courses, they can explore advanced topics such as developmental biology or medical aspects of athletic training. Students benefit from close mentorships with their professors, as well as mentoring relationships with more experienced Health Science majors.

Opportunities Abound

Students are encouraged to pursue internship opportunities in Marietta and beyond. Recently, some have interned at Marietta Memorial Hospital, participating in physician rounds. Others have also interned at other research facilities in the area. In their senior year, students work closely with faculty in either biology or sports medicine on an independent research project. This well-rounded program approaches health science from many different angles, ultimately preparing students to head out into the world and create change in the healthcare field.
