Marietta College has announced the hiring of 10 new full-time faculty members in eight different academic disciplines for the 2017-18 academic year.
Yadira Albornoz comes to Marietta as an Assistant Professor and Program Director of Music Therapy. Albornoz has practiced music therapy for more than 27 years, while also being an accomplished clarinetist, composer and singer. She earned a Ph.D. in Music Therapy from Temple University.
Christopher Bowmaster joins Marietta as an Instructor of Music and Director of Pep Band, after serving as an adjunct professor. He earned a Master of Music from Kent State University.
Brandon Downing comes to Marietta as an Assistant Professor of History. He’ll be teaching U.S. History: First Century and Native American History this fall. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Cincinnati.
Andrew Francis joins Marietta as an Assistant Professor of Music after formerly serving as an adjunct in the Music Department. Francis is an award-winning composer and percussionist. He earned his D.M.A. in Composition from Michigan State University.
Alexie Hays comes to Marietta as an Assistant Professor of Communication. She’ll be teaching Fundamentals of Oral Communications, Introduction to Health Communication and Human Communication Theory this fall. She earned a Ph.D. from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
James Karan joins Marietta as an Assistant Professor of Accounting. He’ll be teaching Introduction to Management Accounting, Intermediate Accounting II and Federal Income Tax this fall. He earned his Master of Arts in Accounting from Florida State University.
Kathryn “Ann” Kaufman comes to Marietta as an Instructor of Education, after formerly serving as an adjunct. She earned a Master of Arts from West Virginia University-Parkersburg.
Paul Washington joins Marietta as an Assistant Visiting Professor of Geology. He’ll be teaching Physical Geography Lab and Mineralogy & Petrology this fall. He earned a Ph.D. from the University of Connecticut.
Matthew Williamson, a graduate of Marietta College, joins the College as an Assistant Professor of Computer Science. He will be teaching Computing in Business, Scientific Computing and Management Information Systems. He earned his Ph.D. from West Virginia University.
Ni Zhang comes to Marietta as an Assistant Professor of Chinese and Director of Asian Studies. Zhang will teach East Asian Culture and Film, Chinese I, Advanced Chinese I and Journey to the East this fall. Zhang earned a Master of Arts from Beijing Foreign Studies University.
