During the 2018 Spring Semester, Marietta College will unveil the Women’s Speaker Series — which will feature women faculty presenting on influential women from their respective fields.
“The idea for this series came out of the movie Hidden Figures. I was astonished that as a female mathematician I had never heard of the women in this film,” said Instructor Michelle Jeitler. “It got me thinking, how many more women out there are so important in their field, but remain in the shadows? I am hoping to direct the spotlight to these women and the impressive work they have done in their respective fields. I also felt it was important to have our faculty present on whom they felt were influential and underrepresented in their fields.”
The series kicks off with Dr. Debbie Egolf, Professor of Chemistry, on Wednesday, January 31st. Each presentation, which will last 30-45 minutes, will take place at noon in Rickey 166. There will also be a short Q&A at the end of each session.
Also presenting this semester will be:
- Holly Menzel, Instructor of Mathematics, February 28th
- Dr. Nicole Livengood, Associate Professor of English, March 28th
- Jolene Powell, McCoy Professor of Art, April 25th
