The music of Godspell has brought joy and thoughtful contemplation to audiences around the world for the last 50 years. During Easter weekend, the Theatre at Marietta College is pleased to present these beloved and chart-topping songs performed by its students on the Friederich Theater stage and streamed for free.
Godspell will be available via scheduled streams at 6:00, 8:00 and 10:00 p.m. on Friday, April 2nd and Saturday, April 3rd. Free access to each stream can be reserved online beginning Friday, March 26th. Marietta College students and employees also should reserve access through ShowTix4U.
“Our students have been working on these numbers for the past year since the global pandemic shut down our live performances planned for the spring of 2020,” said Andy Felt, Godspell Director and Associate Professor. “Now we are happy to share these powerful messages inspired by the life and teachings of Jesus Christ and hope you will join us as we celebrate the coming of spring and share with you the successes of our student performers.”
Gwen Sour ’22, who is majoring in Theatre-BFA, directed the song “We Beseech Thee.”
“I have had the unique privilege of working on both sides of the table for this show,” Sour said. “I am excited to share the directorial work that I have done with the community, however, I have also had the distinct pleasure of being able to act in this show. … Having the opportunity to create theatre during this pandemic has been so cathartic and fulfilling and I think the story of Godspell is about coming together as a community and I can’t think of a message that we, as a society, need more now.”
Godspell was conceived and originally directed by John-Michael Tebelak with music and new lyrics by Stephen Schwartz. Godspell 2012-Revised Version is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI). All authorized performance materials are also supplied by MTI.
