Marietta College’s Edward E. MacTaggart Department of Music is combining all campus choirs, including the Oratorio Chorus, to perform Duruflé Requiem at 7:30 p.m., Friday, April 27th.
The performance, which is free and open to the public, is at the First Baptist Church, corner of Fourth of Putnam streets.
“Maurice Duruflé’s famous Requiem is a short and powerful work,” said Dr. Jay Dougherty, Director of Choral Activities. “We’re all learning the same music in preparation for this event. I’m very excited to be combining all of our choirs for the first time since I’ve been at Marietta College.”
Dougherty believes this represents another step in the program’s efforts to collaborate in the music department.
“The performance will be accompanied by organ and our featured soloist will be Dr. Amy Yekel, our voice faculty at Marietta College,” Dougherty said. “Amy is a diamond in our music department. We’re lucky to have her and any time I can program music that features her is a pleasure.”
The performance also features student soloist, Steven Chambers, and a community member soloist, Shandra Ice.
“In this way, the students, the community, and the faculty are all featured in one big performance,” Dougherty said. “The full concert should run about 45 minutes and it’s not to be missed. Duruflé’s music is powerful.”
