The long days of summer are here, but that doesn’t mean campus has slowed down.
Marietta College buzzed with activity as it hosted the annual statewide meeting of the Ohio College Learning Center Association (OCLCA).
This year’s conference was the second ever meeting, taking place June 11-12. While the National Association has been around since 1986, Ohio’s chapter is building momentum in just its second year.
Marietta College’s Provost Dr. Janet Bland was asked to be the 2019 keynote speaker.
“The theme for this year is ‘Working Together for Student Success,’” said Amanda Cech, Director of the College’s Academic Resource Center. “There’s no better representative of collaboration than Janet Bland.”
The OCLCA, a state affiliate of the National College Learning Center Association, seeks to serve members of administration that work in areas of higher education. By providing networking opportunities and offering forums for members, the OCLCA works to promote professionalism at colleges and universities all over Ohio.
Marietta welcomed representatives from 37 different institutions, nearly double the amount that participated last year in the first OCLCA conference.
Each year, the OCLCA location will rotate around different regions of the state. Marietta College was the venue of choice for Southeast Ohio.
“Marietta has been a phenomenal host,” said Stephanie Walker, President of the OCLCA. “The entire campus is very welcoming, the food has been great and the facility suits our needs exactly.”
The OCLCA has grown from 19 member institutions to nearly 40 in just a year’s time.
As it continues to expand, its focus will be on building camaraderie, supporting growth and developing leaders of all learning centers.
Following a luncheon and Janet Bland’s speaking session, the conference concluded with round table discussions on Wednesday, June 12.
