In roaring twenties Chicago, aspiring chorus girl Roxie Hart and fading vaudeville star Velma Kelley each face trial for murder. The two "Merry Murderesses" vie for the spotlight and the headlines, ultimately joining forces in search of the "American Dream": fame, fortune, and acquittal.
