Marietta's Woolf and Huffman named Academic All-OAC in 2008
Duo among 18 student-athletes to receive recognition this spring

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio — The Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) office announced its 2008 Softball Academic All-OAC winners on Monday (May 19) morning and two Marietta College softball players received recognition. Sophomore catcher Katie Woolf (Louisville) earned Academic All-OAC, while senior center fielder Krista Huffman (Woodsfield/Monroe Central) picked up Academic All-OAC honorable mention.
Woolf, a two-time All-OAC award winner—second team in 2007 and All-OAC honorable mention in 2008—, batted .388 (40-for-103) in 2008. She led the squad in RBI with 29, the fourth most for a Pioneer in single season history. Woolf, a third team All-Central Region honoree, finished second in hits with 40 and home runs with three while adding seven doubles. The catcher also collected 170 putouts this spring. Woolf, a graphic design major, carried a 3.47 grade point average into her fourth semester at Marietta.
Huffman, a four-year letterwinner and mainstay in center field, batted .224 (17-for-76) in her final year with the Pioneers. In 34 games, she added three doubles, one triple, 10 runs scored and 11 runs batted in. Huffman ended her career as the all-time leader in games played with 163. Huffman, who recently graduated with a degree in advertising & public relations, entered her final semester with a 3.42 grade point average.
Marietta, under the leadership of 21st-year Head Coach Jeanne Arbuckle, finished the season 21-13 overall and 9-9 in the OAC, which placed them sixth in the standings. The Pioneers lose three seniors, Huffman, Brandy Jacob (Wellington/Keystone) and Nikki Veigel (Canton/South). The class finished its career with the most wins in school history, compiling a 104-61 (.630) record.
18 players from the Conference have been named Academic All-OAC and Academic All-OAC honorable mention. The academic award winners are selected by the OAC faculty athletics representatives. To be eligible for Academic All-OAC, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.25 cumulative gpa, be a starter or key reserve and be in at least her second year of participation in the sport.
