Core: 12 to 12:30 p.m. Monday, Wednesday
This 30 minute class is targeted for your core muscles.
This is our powerhouse. We will focus on all the abdominal muscles and the lower back. Using floor exercises and some equipment, ie: body balls, medicine balls, tubing, this class will strengthen your core and help with toning the tummy and improving posture. Weak abs are a major cause of back pain.
Breathing techniques may be used in some of our Pilates based exercises.
We can all spare 30 minutes for ourselves to focus on our well-being.
Come join us in making a commitment to yourself to be active in your good health!
Flexibility: 12 to 12:30 p.m. Monday, Wednesday
This 30 minute class will focus on stretching and flexibility. This important part of over-all fitness is often overlooked or forgotten. Flexibility will help with your every day life, allowing you the mobility you need in your job, general work, gardening, sports, fitness, parenting, grand-parenting, and just plain fun.
Being flexible will help prevent injury, and allow you to reach your goals every day, everywhere. If you are coming in specifically for flexibility, we will prep the muscles for stretching, and learn the safe way in which to do it.
You are welcome to attend both the core and flexibility class or just one. If you are doing a cardio machine and need to cool down and stretch after your workout, this is perfect for you. If you are attending the abs class, but want to stay for both, you will just continue for the stretch for as long as you wish.
Feel free to depart early if you need time to return to work.
Music will be used. Wear comfortable clothing.
All you need to bring with you is an open mind. We provide the rest!

Faculty and Staff Fitness: 7 to 8 a.m. Tuesday, Thursday
This basic fitness class is open to faculty, staff, spouses, alumni and community members. The class focuses on strength training, body shaping, and flexibility. We will use various "props" (free weights, body balls, bands, medicine balls) as well as gravity for resistance during the strength training and body shaping portions of the class.
Exercises that incorporate principles of yoga and Pilates help develop flexibility. This class does not include cardio exercises. Participants are encouraged attend other cardio-based activity classes (such as Step Interval or Kickboxing) to engage in cardio or aerobic activity.
Music is used.
Instructor: Mary Beth Peebles
Location: Multi-Purpose Room
Kickboxing: 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Friday
This class is a challenging cardio workout using movements of martial arts combined with some aerobic choreography. Punches and kicks are used to elevate your heart rate to give you a great sweat. Some squats and lunges are added during class to work on building strength in the legs and glutes.
Ab work and low back exercises are also involved at the end of class to work on a well-balanced strong torso, followed by a good stretch. Instructor will be checking on your form throughout classes.
Music is used.
Instructor: Renee Bloomingdale
Location: Multi-Purpose Room
Strength Training: 1 to 2 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Friday
This class will be held in the weight room and fitness center. We will be using free weights and resistance machines. A designed workout will be given to each student, and options will be shown and offered as alternatives.
Strength training is especially important for women, as lean muscle mass boosts the metabolism, and weight training helps protect the bones.
No music used.
